Forget matching art to your furniture pieces. Gary says art should be emotional, unexpected, and even a little weird.
Use the following principles when curating your artwork:
- Mix mediums and styles. Blend photography, abstract paintings, vintage frames, portraits or even ceramics - Whatever speaks to you. The variance of colors, textures, and materials create depth and movement across your walls.
- Play with scale and placement. Large, small, off-center—it’s all fair game.
- Add objects to your walls. Nobody said you shouldn’t hang your grandma’s rolling pin next to your favorite framed art piece. In fact, Gary encourages it.
- Rotate your collection. Moods can change like the seasons. Rearranging your artwork can revive your space and give a refreshed feeling.

Quick tip - Wrap wire around objects and create a loop to hang on a nail. This will let you display unconventional items without needing a frame.
